Mirror mirror on the wall

who’s the fairest of them all?

When you look in the mirror what do you see?

Do you see yourself as you are?

Do you see the self you wish to be?

Do you see all the things you think are wrong with your current self?

We are hideously bad at assessing ourselves objectively

We absolutely cannot do it

We are too close and too connected to our ideals

It takes a truly objective person to stand back and assess themselves

How subjective vision is anyway!

What you look at and think eughhh my thighs suck

Someone else looks at and thinks ‘wow she has amazing legs!’

I was having a conversation with a client the other day

Lets give her a name for fun, lets call her Janet

Janet was telling me that she had bumped into a few people she’d hadn’t seen for a while

And on 3 separate occasions they all said ‘wow you’re looking great’

Now these people didn’t know each other so they weren’t in on some elaborate plan to buoy Janet’s spirits

But Janet tried really hard to convince me that they were all just ‘being nice’

Ha

People AREN’T that nice

If you see someone who has put weight on, you don’t say anything

If you see someone who looks the same, we don’t say anything

But if you see someone who has made a significant different in a positive way

We are a nation that speaks up

We might be jealous of the progress

But we do pay the compliment (typically)

So sorry Janet

You’re just going to have to accept that you are making progress

That you are looking good

And your hard work is all paying off!

Too bad eh ;-)

Next time someone pays you a compliment

Take it

Rejoice in it

And dance around smiling if you want to

The moment you start believing what people say

Is the moment it becomes REAL

Until you believe something, it doesn’t exist

I still believe that I am going to be accepted in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

I cant let that belief go ;-)

If anyone wants to verify for Janet that she is indeed ‘looking good’

Just have glance at her progress photos, bearing in mind that the ‘now’ photo is about 4 months old and she has made EVEN MORE progress since then!
