Sometimes you just gotta go for it!
Debbie has been training with us for a couple of years now and she’s come a long way with her fitness, strength and confidence.
Recently Debbie has been through some tough times with a few things that have held her back from being able to achieve the lifting that she wants to do.
It’s not easy to feel like you are standing still, whilst other people around you keep progressing and landing personal bests and Debbie was feeling a bit fed up with not reaching her goals, despite the fact that she recognises exactly why it hasn’t happened and it was not in her control.
What is in her control is what she can do now. We’ve been working on building her strength back up, developing her strength in a bigger range so that when she goes for the bigger numbers and personal best level lifting, she feels like she has a strong baseline.
This is a smart way of training, it minimises the risk of injury and builds the confidence of the person doing the lifting. So we were doing our job of keeping our members safe.
But what this wasn’t achieving was making Debbie feel awesome.
Debbie felt fine, but a bit demotivated that she felt like she was falling behind the other ladies in the gym in certain lifts.
We always want to help our members to feel awesome and empowered because they are awesome people! This is the other BIG part of our job!
So this week, we set up some challenges for Debbie to tackle and she achieved TWO new personal bests within the space of 5 minutes. Woahhhhh.
This is awesome and Debbie walked out of the gym that day feeling epic!
So whilst it wasn’t technically the ideal circumstances to achieve it (it was 36 degrees mid heatwave, and it was AFTER a full training session) … Debbie went for it with our encouragement and SMASHED IT! Hooray!
Sometimes you just gotta go for it!
