Inspired by Ramadan

You may or may not be aware of this, but it is the end of the Muslim fasting period called Ramadan

If you’ve never heard of it, it’s a month where Muslims all over the world choose to take nil by mouth from dusk until dawn

It is a test of resilience and strength and dedication

It is particularly challenging when many of these people are continuing to work, exercise and live their lives whilst doing this

It got me thinking about resolve….

….and what we can really achieve if we put our minds to it!

I’ve been a big champion of flexibility when approaching dieting and food restriction

I truly believe that we should be striving toward a mentality where we feel confident in our choices even when we are taken out of our comfort zone (this will take time but it is possible)

I also think that having a little bit of what you fancy (chocolate, cake, cookies, ice cream etc) isn’t going to hurt AS LONG AS the foundation for good health is in place

But I think most people find this kind of freedom around food difficult to understand and define

And after years of dieting, and having strict rules in place where you label foods as good or bad and have a line that you draw for clarity…

I think it’s going to take some time to transform the mindset and really understand what this freedom and flexibility means for you and your lifestyle

So with that in mind, it’s probably a good idea to have some guidelines that you stick to

Not necessarily strict rules (I still think that having hard and fast rules can make us feel guilty, ashamed and has this impact on being on/off a diet and up and down like a yo-yo)

But a set of guidelines that you can draw strength from that you KNOW suit your body, your weight loss goals and the results that you want
