‘I wasn’t ready to change things’

Most people assume that personal trainers have endless motivation and an uncanny ability to make positive lifestyle changes

This is categorically NOT TRUE

At least from where I’m standing

I have struggled against change for years until I realised something important

I simply had to be ready to make the changes when the time was right

We are all working on a different timeline

We are all walking a different path

And we’ve all come from and faced different challenges in our lives

No one is better or worse than you for not being able to make a change

And you are no better or worse than anyone else, for not being ready YET

Changing things is hard

On the surface it can seem easy

Just eat less and move more……right??

If you’ve ever tried to get healthier, fitter, stronger

If you’ve ever tried to lose weight AND keep it off

You’ll know that there is a tangle of things that can get in the way of that simple concept

Some of the more tricky ones include:

We are all facing these barriers, no matter who we are or where we have come from

I am no different to you

I struggle with the same issues

I find the same things hard

And I often get things wrong in my quest to improve my health and well-being

But these days I have a great deal more resilience than I used to

And it comes back to around the time that I started to accept one simple thing…..

I will not be ready to engage with and succeed with everything that I know about

There are protocols, ideas, practises that I have known about for years, and learned about over and over again, that I simply have not been able to engage with in my lifestyle

Despite knowing the power of them

Despite knowing that doing them will help me to get closer to my goals

Sometimes you simply are not ready to do it yet

And that’s ok

Honestly it really is!

If you keep looking inwards, at what you are doing, all of your hard work

You wont worry so much about what you are NOT doing YET

Plan it in for later in your healthy timeline

And work on simply accepting that what you are doing right now is enough

An d that one day (maybe soon, maybe a lot later) you will be ready to change the other stuff too!
