How to alleviate boredom snacking (the snack attack)

A super common admission from my members is that they get the SNACK ATTACK when they are bored at home

So I thought I would share with you my ideas for how to get past this which should help you to create better habits

We had a good discussion about this in the gym the other night and it’s important that you realise¬†that you are NOT the only person who is doing this

Essentially a habit of wandering into the kitchen, opening the fridge or cupboard and looking in for something to ‘DO’ is more common than you would think

We have a population of boredom eaters or sneaky eaters who are snarfing extra food between meals simply because there is nothing else to do (and it’s now a habit!)

My first question was ‘do you have any hobbies’

Because a good hobby that you ENJOY is something that can keep you distracted (and out of the kitchen)

If you know that there is a particular time of day that you get this SNACK ATTACK (typically an hour before or after dinner, or later at night if your dinner is early-ish)…

….then schedule SOMETHING else to do at that time

It really doesn’t matter what it is

As long as you ENJOY it and are happy to do it on a regular basis

Some ideas that we came up with were:

  1. Dance classes
  2. Workout classes
  3. Yoga classes
  4. Archery lessons
  5. Music lessons

If you don’t have a large budget how about:

  1. Walking around the village
  2. Playing a musical instrument at home
  3. Crafting
  4. Jigsaw puzzles
  5. Drawing
  6. Colouring
  7. Mindfulness journal
  8. Knitting
  9. Sewing

The important thing is that you find it FUN and DISTRACTING

So give that a try!

Schedule in a distraction at your SNACK ATTACK time and be strong when your body (because its a habit) tells you to walk to the fridge!

You can break this habit in less than 3 weeks if you really try!

Let me know how you’re getting on, and you never know what you might discover in the search for your hobby

You might find a true passion
